Melaporkan perintah dan permintaan

Saat ingin melaporkan suatu perintah atau permintaan, kita dapat menggunakan kata kerja seperti tell dengan klausa to: He told me to go away. Polanya adalah kata kerja + objek tidak langsung + klausa to. Objek tidak langsung adalah orang yang diajak bicara. Kata kerja lainnya yang digunakan untuk melaporkan perintah dan permintaan dengan cara ini adalah: command, order, warn, ask, advise, invite, beg, teach, dan forbid.

Meminta suatu benda dilaporkan menggunakan pola asked for + objek.

Saran

Saran sering kali dilaporkan menggunakan kata kerja suggest, insist, recommend, demand, request, dan propose diikuti oleh klausa that. That dan should bersifat opsional (dapat dihilangkan) dalam klausa-klausa ini, seperti yang ditunjukkan di dua contoh pertama di bawah ini. Perhatikan bahwa suggest, recommend, dan propose juga dapat diikuti oleh gerund untuk menghilangkan objek tidak langsung (penerima saran), sehingga membuat saran lebih sopan. Penggunaan gerund ini ditunjukkan di contoh keempat dan kelima di bawah ini.
