Melaporkan harapan, niat, dan janji

Saat melaporkan suatu harapan, niat, atau janji, kita menggunakan kata kerja yang melaporkan (reporting verb) yang sesuai, diikuti oleh klausa that dengan kata would atau klausa to-infinitive. Kata kerja yang digunakan dalam pola ini adalah: hope, promise, threaten, guarantee, dan swear. Perhatikan bahwa kata that bersifat opsional (dapat dihilangkan) saat menggunakan klausa that, seperti contoh pertama di bawah ini.
