Take a guided tour of the oldest caves in Northern Europe and see what life was like for prehistoric man. There’s also an Agatha Christie Walk, where you see landmarks of her amazing life and solve a mystery en route. Once a summer, Torquay fetes its maritime heritage at the Tall Ships Celebrations where you can also watch the acrobatic antics of the Royal Air Force’s Red Arrows. Up for exploring on your own? Torquay boasts several sandy beaches for tanning, swimming, bodysurfing. Torre Abbey Green is a favorite park with students for picnicking and playing sports. Brixham’s picturesque marina offers some of the best boutique shopping—not to mention authentic fish and chips.

You can see EF’s “castle”—EF House—from just about everywhere in town. And you can bet your classmates will be from just about everywhere in the world—Torquay is one of our most popular destinations. (Speaking of classes, our new EF Action Street Dance course lets you combine English lessons with dance coaching from a professional choreographer!) In addition to total immersion by living with a local English host family, you can also live at the EF Resort where you’ll enjoy a camp-like atmosphere and easy access to the beach. Either way, study visits will get you out of the classroom to visit a coastal village time forgot—Cockington Court—hidden in a deep valley just one mile from the bustle of Torquay; take a refreshing coastal walk along footpaths affording amazing views of both town and sea; and attend a session of the local law courts to witness justice in action with a real life trial. We’ll also fill your free time with a weekly activities program of volleyball tournaments, beach games, and cricket matches. Events include our own Looney Lympics (be prepared to get silly, messy and wet!) and the EF World Cup Football Tournament. At night, the EF Disco, located right on the harborside, is spinning dance hits four times a night—and is free to EF students.
