2017.03.24

According to the dictionary, bully is defined as a blustering, quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people. There are many forms of Bullying such as: making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose. Unfortunately, bullying has various negative effect that may become detrimental for both the victim and the bully. Bullying causes people to become power hungry and change in personality and behavior of an individual that causes both physical and mental pain. I believe that it is our responsibility to stop and prevent such violence from happening. Only when we work together will bullying be stopped.

When most people think of a bully, they imagine boys punching, kicking and hitting one another. One of the common causes of bullying is hunger or adrenaline of power. Most of these bullies believe that if they push people around and make them do what you want them to do, they will get noticed or in other words become popular. However, there are some bullies who do it for the adrenaline rush, such as to hurt people see the victim cry; they find joy in hurting people. Unfortunately, bullying comes in various forms. There are 3 types of the most common types of bullying found in schools. The first form of bullying is Verbal Bullying. Verbal Bullying use words, statements, and name-calling to gain power and control over a target. Typically, verbal bullies will use relentless insults to belittle, demean and hurt another person. They choose their targets based on the way they look, act or behave. It’s also common for verbal bullies to target kids with special needs. Verbal bullying is often very difficult to identify because attacks almost always occur when adults aren’t around. In fact, it can leave deep emotional scars. The second form of bullying is physical bullying. Physical bullying is the most obvious form of bullying, this form of bullying includes: kicking, hitting, punching, slapping, shoving and other physical attacks. Unlike the other forms of bullying, physical bullying is the easiest to identify. The Last form of bullying is Cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is bullying takes place using electronic technology. Examples of cyberbullying include: unpleasant text messages or emails, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, and creating fake profile. What makes bullying dangerous and unethical is not the actual action or technology but it is the way an action or technology is being used; when used wisely bullying can be avoided.

Another effect of bullying is that it can change the personality of the victim. When a person is bullied it is more likely that their personalities will change. For example, a person that is usually happy and confident may become self-conscious, shy, unsure, depressed and may even feel as if they are unworthy. Some of these victims endure such traumatizing experiences that it may change their daily lives. They may become hesitant to participate in situations where he or she might be ridiculed, such as in public speaking or in sports. As a result of bullying, people may lose their ability to love and trust; denying them the chance to experience a quality relationship later in their life. They might find themselves as a submissive partner or they may want to be completely alone. Some people may consider mocking someone as funny even though it is anything but funny to the victim. Bullying is unacceptable in any situations, and it is everyone’s responsibility to prevent bullying from happening and bullies from forming.
