Present perfect tense digunakan untuk menunjukkan peristiwa atau kegiatan yang telah terjadi di waktu yang tidak spesifik. Sedangkan past perfect digunakan untuk menyatakan kegiatan atau peristiwa yang terjadi sebelum kegiatan lain berlangsung di masa lampau (past).

Contoh

  • I am not hungry now. I have already eaten.

Terjemahan
Sekarang aku tidak lapar. Aku sudah makan.

“Hungry” terjadi di masa sekarang (present) sehingga kalimat I have already eaten menggunakan present perfect tense.

Contoh

  • I was not hungry yesterday. I had already eaten.

Terjemahan
Kemarin aku tidak lapar. Aku sudah makan

“Hungry” terjadi di masa lampau (past) sehingga kalimat I had already eaten menggunakan past perfect tense.
