The beach. Think the four S’s: surfboards, sand, sunshine and swimming! California’s mild climate makes a trip to the beach a year-round pleasure. But that’s true for whatever you’re into. Most Californian cities boast terrific rollerblading and bike riding paths, unbelievable multi-store open-air shopping malls, heaving sidewalk café culture, and every imaginable kind of outdoor dining. But the beach barbecue is a Californian specialty, usually preceded by a volleyball game and followed by a sing-along around a bonfire.
