EF Language Travel in Edinburgh

Edinburgh Castle is a must. It’s the very symbol of Scotland’s long history as a kingdom in its own right. Probably why the castle is Scotland’s most visited attraction. Its ramparts allow you stunning panoramic views of the city and surrounding countryside. From the Castle, stroll past 1,000 years or so of history along the Royal Mile connecting Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood House, Queen Elizabeth’s official Scottish residence. Into theater? Don’t miss the famous Edinburgh Festival, which begins in late summer and showcases the world’s hottest fringe, music and dramatic theater. Time for a little retail therapy? Shopping is excellent in Edinburgh. We suggest starting with the high street shops along Prince Street. Looking for a little fresh air? Hike up Arthur’s Seat with a couple of EF friends. Right in town, it’s the remains of a volcano that erupted under water 335 million years ago. Bring a picnic lunch!

One of EF’s more popular Global Villages, you can be sure of a terrific mix of students from all around the world. You have your choice of accommodation here. Total immersion in a friendly Scottish host family, or the international atmosphere of our student residence—located a short walk from EF Centre where you take your classes. Your teachers are keen to get you using your English in real-life situations, which is why they often get you out of the classroom for study visits to the city’s best historic and cultural attractions: the Royal Scottish Museum showcases science and industry and the natural world; the National Gallery is home to a superb collection of painting and sculpture from Renaissance to Post-Impressionism; and the Royal Botanic Gardens possess the second richest collection of rare plant species in the world. When school’s out for the day, be sure to check the Activity Board for what’s on. In addition to a variety of weekly sports tournaments, you can join our own Looney Lympics—be prepared to get a little silly, messy and wet!—a city-wide treasure hunt and a mad team town quiz. And don’t forget the EF Disco is spinning the summer’s hottest dance tracks three nights a week at one of the city’s hippest clubs.
